The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU), including the export of personal data outside the EU. The deadline for GDPR compliance is May 25, 2018. Penalties for noncompliance can reach up to 20 million euros or 4 percent of a company’s annual worldwide revenue – whichever is greater.
